Native Device Integrations in a Web Flow

Custom React wrappers around native bridges and a resilient scan state machine that raised completion rates on the platforms where the stock screens failed.

Stack
React · React Native bridge · State machines

The problem

Reading a hardware chip through several vendors, on a very wide range of phones and networks, gave poor completion rates. A browser cannot talk to the hardware, so everything went through native app bridges, and the vendors' stock screens failed silently when the user moved the device.

The approach

  • Custom React wrappers over the native bridges, instead of the vendors' stock screens. Ours added visual alignment guides, haptic cues, error recovery loops and our own branding.
  • Explicit asynchronous state machines (scanning, reading, verifying) with automatic retries when the connection drops.

The result

Completion rates rose clearly on the platforms and markets where the stock screens had struggled, and overall conversion improved after the rollout.
